I am pleased to have been re-elected to the Washington State Senate this year. I appreciate your interest and support.
I have represented the 34th Legislative District in the State House of Representatives since November 2007. I am very pleased to serve the very diverse 34th District, which includes part of Burien, North Highline, Vashon/Maury Islands, and West Seattle.
I also was very pleased to be elected the Senate Democratic Caucus Leader in late 2013 and again this year. In 2014, as Leader, I was very proud of the work our Senate Democrats did even though we were serving in the minority.
During the past seven sessions, I am proud to have worked on legislation to help reform payday lending, protect Maury Island from a multinational mining corporation, and to ensure we passed a budget in 2013 which reflected our Democratic values. I worked, as a member of the operating budget negotiating team, to protect working families, protect the safety net, and to fund early learning, K-12 education and higher education.
During the past 3 Legislative Session, I have continue to work to close corporate loopholes in order to raise revenue. For the future of our state and to have progressive budgets which will reflect our state’s values we need tax reform.
I am now focused on the 2015 Legislative Session.
My priorities in Olympia will continue to include:
- Protecting the environment,
- Improving education,
- Tackling our transportation problems,
- Working for affordable housing and family wage jobs, and
- Protecting the homeless and working to end homelessness in Washington State.
Thank you for your support.
